Applications Engineer — Industrial Smart Motion Control (Mechatronics/Hardware)

Job Description

Location: The role can be based in Victoria, BC, hybrid, or remote within Canada.

We’re partnering with a fast-scaling hardware technology company that’s redefining industrial motion control with a fully-integrated, plug-and-play “smart” linear motor, replacing legacy pneumatic and electromagnetic actuators for OEMs, system integrators, and machine builders. The company is targeting growth from $3M to $50M CAD in revenue over the next five years, and this is their first dedicated applications engineering hire.

Why this role

  • New-to-world technology: a fully integrated, IP68-rated, data-reporting smart motor used in drones, humanoid robotics testing, motion stabilization, and underwater applications.
  • First dedicated applications engineer: high autonomy to shape the function, with a path to build and lead a team, or to own the application area you’re most excited about.
  • Aggressive product roadmap: roughly 10 new products over the next 12 months, including a new motor size and heavier-duty models.
  • A real voice in where the technology goes next, from marine steering to packaging automation to forestry.
  • Small, collaborative, startup-energy culture with a newly appointed, experienced CEO.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary of $90,000 to $130,000 CAD based on experience to make $140,000 – $170,000 CAD
  • Equity (ESOP)
  • Bonuses
  • Full benefits

What you’ll own

  • Technical discovery and fit analysis for key accounts: sizing, selecting, and integrating the motor into customer machines.
  • Demos, integration calls, and on-site installs and troubleshooting alongside the sales team, with travel across North America.
  • The feedback loop to R&D: turning customer needs, product gaps, and recurring issues into product input and technical documentation.

Requirements

  • 2–3+ years as an applications engineer, ideally at a motion control, automation, robotics, or electromechanical product company.
  • Proven mechanical and software experience. Mechatronics is ideal, and CAD proficiency (Fusion or SolidWorks) is required.
  • Familiarity with Python and PLC programming, plus industrial communications such as Modbus, EtherNet/IP, or CAN.
  • A consultative, customer-curious mindset and the ability to connect technical capability to what a customer actually needs.
